Dinner

I've been making a huge effort to have sit-down organic family dinners that all three of us can eat together.  Lorelai is an adventurous eater considering her age, I mean really how many six year olds do you know that know their favorite sushi roll, or how to order their filet, and loves lamb meat?!?!  But still, she's six and variety can be a challenge especially when you mix in my lack of cooking skills.... but I'm trying!  And this week we had porter houses broiled in the oven.

There is another story with the broiler and my new conviction that multi-generational co-habition would benefit everyone... my parents told me my steaks would taste great if I broiled them and I, a 32 years old attorney, responded that I don't have a broiler.... turns out that every oven has one, and the old adage that 'you learn something new every day' really is true!!

Anyway here is our delicious meal, I didn't get an after picture because it was so good it was gone in record time!

Level 2

My accomplished little gymnast tested out of level 1 tumbling last night. She nailed her back bend kick over and back bend stand up, she was sooooo thrilled and squealed for hours in excitement last night!  Her coach said she should be flipping back handsprings by this summer, stay tuned for videos!  We're so proud of her!!

Spencer's Magic and Illusion Show

We didn't get sawed in half or anything but Rusty did get to go on stage as an audience volunteer and Lorelai got her picture with Spencer after the show!
 Such a perfect family night!

Lorelai's room theme is bumble bees, and my mom found the perfect Bee Mine Valentine's for her teachers!  How cute?!

Chef Lorelai

I took Lorelai to the grocery tonight and together we picked out the menu and cooked it.  We had organic chicken drizzled in olive oil baked in the oven, fresh asparagus pan seared, spinach noodles with lemon oil, salad, fresh baby carrots, and chocolate covered strawberries!  It was delicious!

Now that's a best friend...

Lorelai passed out directly on top of CC for her nap today!

Polar Vortex

All this cold, and the polar vortexes, made for one happy girl and her grandparents this morning. I dropped Lorelai off with my parents while I went to yoga and she had a good long run in the snow, in the sleds, etc. CC went with her, and CC even has a matching purple snow sweater but she's so my dog and hates the cold!  Haha!

Valentine's At Lowe's

This morning we went to Lowe's for their Build and Grow clinic, we used to go all the time and Lorelai asked if we could go again a few weeks ago so we signed her up and today was the Valentine's letter holder, she did a great job!

Another Ace

It was also "body" week in Kindergarten, and I got to go teach yoga to them!!!  So fun!

ARF!

Lorelai stole the kindergarten show, she was amazing and delivered her lines flawlessly!  We were all so very proud of our little starlet!

Compassion

At my first parent-teacher meeting Lorelai's teacher talked about her various academic strengths, etc. but she blew us away when she said Lorelai was "the most compassionate kid she's had".  I actually teared up, right there sitting in the tiny kindergarten chair I had tears welling in my eyes.
Because, if I could pick any adjective to describe what I want most in life for her, it would be compassion.  And when I look at her I see an old soul, that gets it, I mean really gets it.. kindness matters.  I was so overwhelmed that her teacher saw that in her too.

I read this blog today that made me think of Lorelai and her teacher and this story:

Level 2

And just like that, we moved from the level one books at BAM to level two!  Go, L, go!

Someone call MENSA!

Lorelai's second spelling test, and a second A+, wow!

Boots & Bow Ties

I absolutely love theme parties, and Lorelai's school had a fundraiser party featuring James Otto (sings "you should have seen it in color" and writes many famous country music hits).  The theme was Boots & Bow Ties and I bedazzled my boots with the school letters!  We had a great night!

Secret Keeper Girl

Lorelai and I went to Dannah Gresh's Secret Keeper Girl's Crazy Hair Tour last night!  It was an AMAZING mother-daughter night, and we were both dancing in the aisles, praising God, praying, and had a great time!

Happy 100th Day of School

The Kindergarteners dressed up as if they were 100 years old today, Lorelai looked awesome!

A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous. ~ Coco Chanel

I'm pretty sure Lorelai was born with glitter in her veins, she's always shining from within.  This kid is gorgeous, and there's little that compares to watching her twirl in a twirling-dress!

Sleep Over

1st Sleep Over

Lorelai is thrilled about her first slumber party!  I made goodie bags with matching pajamas, hair clips, stuffed animals, and socks.  I can't wait to surprise her and her best friend!

Dog, a girl's best friend.

I was deprived as a child, someone should have clearly set up a 1-800 number and collected relief funds on my behalf.  I never had a dog, and every kid should have a dog!

Despite my many attempts to talk my parents into one, and except for the four glorious days I had a dog when I was eight years old (God rest Sparky's little soul), I never had one.

I even wrote my law school admission essay about my failed attempts at trying to get my mom to sign a contract obligating her to get me a dog while she was distracted on the phone.  For what it's worth, I'm certain that character building experience assisted in my many law school admissions, that, or just plain pity.  Because seriously, every kid should have a dog.

Case and point, CC, the world's greatest dog. Lorelai was under the weather this week, lots of sleep was needed to nurse her back to health. You know who never left her side?  You guessed it.

And another fun story:  Once in the middle of the night CC started to bark, which is sortof rare, and she got up to go crazy by the window, then came back to bed and stood with Lorelai directly underneath her and growled at the mystery danger, then she layed down directly across her baby. I'm not sure what it was that caused CC to be alarmed, but I'm 100% sure that it wasn't getting my baby without taking her dog out first.

We love you Cs, you're the greatest dog in the world!

All she needs is some cold cream...

Lorelai has asked me to curl her hair twice this week, and she's super proud of her new bath robe.  Nobody's a bigger homebody than my bebe!

Subtraction

Lorelai's Kindergarten class is so impressive they are learning subtraction already?!?!  She did her homework last night with no help from me.  And her answer to the bonus question blew me away!  She was instructed to illustrate the equation 5-3=2 and this is what she came up with, a picture of our kitchen chandelier with 3 bulbs dark and 2 lit up!!!  Genius.

Hunter and Gatherer!

Rusty went hunting good bit this season and we have lots of venison!  This morning I made a venison garlic organic egg cheese burrito!  Just the eat-clean meal I needed to refuel after TWO morning yoga classes.  Lorelai ended up loving the venison filet, so we'll be having that again very soon!

A glowing report card!

Lorelai's gymnastics coach is always commenting on how articulate and hilarious she is too!  I'm so proud of this report card!!
