Lorelai's First Pedicure!

Lorelai got her first professional pedicure today! I had the day off from court, and we decided to splurge. I love days like this, with a peek into the fantasy life of stay at home moms. Granted... if I stayed home I couldn't afford the salon services, or any of the other indulgences of the day... but I really shouldn't be affording them on our budget anyway, so we'll ignore the financial aspects of the dream-day equation. We woke up late and lounged in bed, we got dressed, we took our time doing all of the small things that I normally rush through. There was a particularly lovely request, "Mama, put my hair up please?" I rarely say no to moments like that, anyone who knows me knows I will be late any day of the week before I will disappoint my kid, but sometimes I worry she doesn't even ask because I've already told her we're in a hurry. As I am typing this Lorelai is napping, and I plan to pick up around the house and do laundry before swim class tonight. We would have even made it to the gym today too, but we opted for playtime at home instead. This is the life.

DISCLAIMER: I actually really do love working, heck I love it so much that now I have two jobs!

Notice her baby doll in the picture above? After we had this picture snapped I showed it to L, she grabbed the phone and held it in front of her baby's face for her to see. Be still, my beating heart.

How cute is the little pink and purple pedi chair? I know I say this all of the time, but I feel so blessed to have a little girl. Girl "stuff" is just plain fun!

Lorelai opted for blue polish with a flower painted on the big toe. Aren't those the cutest little feet you've ever seen? Side note: her feet aren't all that little, she actually wears size 9 to 9.5 shoes, at age three and a half!

Fishin' Fathers Day 2011 Video

This is the updated version.

Quote of the Day

Fishing Pictures

Rusty has been very excited and proud to show off his Father's Day video, but it won't play on phones so it takes out a bit of the sharing. So here are the pictures... I also edited the video a bit and it will be re-published. It's not that different, but I like it even better now.

Father's Day 2011 Video

Rusty got a pink fishing pole, money for a fishing license, and the new single Just Fishin' for Father's Day 2011. We celebrated early because we had a "cold" front come through this weekend and tempatures dropped to around 85 degrees yesterday, since the tempature has been in the 100 degree range I decided that we'd celebrate early! Rusty and Lorelai went on out to the lake, and I met up with them just in time to get video footage of her catching her first fish! Lorelai had a great time, and I'm pretty sure her daddy did too. Enjoy y'all!

High Five Friday

1. I actually remembered about my series, and am posting again! I have a bad habit of starting things and then not sticking with it, especially if I'm not good at it. Go me, on coming back to this one! Y'all's positive feedback on it helped me get going this morning to deliver a post.

2. I went to the gym TWICE this week at 5:30 AM. One of my classes included running the entire way around the building, and I made it all the way around without stopping. I drove the distance after the class to measure it in my car, and it was 0.4 miles.... thats a long way for me, a non-runner. I also made it to the gym every single day this week, including Sunday. I'll probably take a break today to let my muscles recoup.

3. Lorelai can ride her bike with training wheels!

4. We got a new Nemo goldfish and he lived from Saturday until Thursday. Not an all time record for a goldfish in our house, but we had fun watching and feeding him.

5. Last Sunday night Lorelai and I were saying prayers, and I went first, still keeping it very simple because she is only 3 I thanked God for the events of the day like going to church, visiting with Meemi and Pa, and swimming and dinner with good friends, Snack and Baby Cash. Then Lorelai said "My turn, Dear God, thank you for Seu Seu sitting still this morning while I petted her before mama woke up." Sweet baby. When I woke up that morning Lorelai was laying at the foot of the bed, gently and lovingly stroking her beloved kitty cat. It meant so much to her that she remembered it as a hi-light of her day, some 12+ hours later. What a blessing it is to have a sweet baby who is truly thankful for the most important things in life like spending time with loved ones.

Just like riding a bike!

Lorelai got this princess bicycle for Christmas from Derek and Angie, and tonight we put air in the tires so she could try it out... and she did it!! I was worried the bike would be too big for her, but we actually had to raise the seat a bit! Godfather Paul helped her get going a few times while I snapped these pictures and got a video! Stay tuned, I'll try to have the video up tomorrow.

High Five Friday

I am starting a new series on this blog, and here is the pilot post. It's High Five Friday. This is inspired by Spilled Milk's blog post today about being her own cheerleader, and I'm a big believer in tooting your own horn, so here it is. Since there are five fingers involved in a high five, I'm going to give y'all five high five worthy happenings from my week.

1. I've been teaching yoga, finding my grove in the class, and the class seems happy. The June schedule was posted at the gym with my name on it and I felt famous.

2. Lorelai packed her purse on Wednesday morning before going to my parents house for the day and counted five coins in Spanish. I didn't know she could do that, and even though I know she is a genius, confirmations like that are so fun. I'll try to get y'all a video this weekend!

3. I went to the gym yesterday morning at 5:30, made it to court on time, and felt great all day.

4. I did the laundry mid-week.

5. I am eating pizza buffet for lunch.

L dancing to her own song.

Lorelai and I had a great girls night last night. We had make overs complete with up-dos, a new princess dress for L, and she even topped the evening off with a show for me! Then, God love her for this, she slept in until 10 AM this morning!!! It's going to be a glorious Memorial Day Weekend!

Go Generals!

Our minor league baseball team got a new name and a new mascot this season. Now we're the Jackson Generals.

Does she look cold here? She was! Luckily we had box seats, and only ran out in the 40 degree May weather long enough to snap this picture.

Gorgeous

I wish I could wear ANYTHING that made me feel as beautiful as Lorelai feels when she dresses herself. She could conquer the world with the confidence she exudes in her tattered party dress with polka dot winter tights and pink plastic "glass slippers". I live for moments like this.

Spoil Me Rotten Fashion Show 2011

I even bought y'all the theme song to ANTM so you didn't have to listen to me in the back ground hooting and hollering, really, I probably should have been wearing a foam #1 finger... she was AWESOME!

Runway Model.

She was a natural, I however could have given the moms from Toddlers in Tiaras a run for their money...I would have elbowed other parents out of the way to get video footage for y'all... luckily I didn't have to resort to that (b.t.dubs, I'm not above it), y'all stay tuned!

ANTM

The local designer children's boutique, Spoil Me Rotten, hosted a fashion show today. Lorelai was asked to be a model (she is probably one of their top customers) and I was SO proud!!

Waiting backstage.

The Little Things Blog

I've added a new blog to my roll, enjoy: http://just-littlethings.tumblr.com/rss

Life's like an hour glass glued to the table.

The greatest compliment...

I've always loved seeing red-headed children with their red-headed mothers because there is no mistaking that those are her babies. And, for as long as I can remember wanting to be a mother I've always wanted a little girl that looks like me, judge away, I guess I'm just narcissistic like that ;) Anyway, here recently, everywhere we go people are commenting that Lorelai looks just like me. No joke, I hear it almost daily. And I love it. LOVE. IT. It makes my heart soar. Not only for the above mentioned reasons. And, not only because I carried her inside me for nine months, eight days, and eleven hours, so I feel a sense of entitlement. But because she is seriously drop dead gorgeous.... so, not only is it really REALLY cool to have my loin fruit look like me, it's also the highest compliment.

My posts are gone too...

I had a few new posts, and now they're goners... hmmm.

UPDATE: The posts are back, but as it turns out I tooted my own horn too quickly. I skipped the gym this morning in favor of sleeping in, I must have been exhausted from inhaling half of a Papa John's pizza last night.

Quote of the Day

"I’m also an attorney…I know what kind of educational experience you’ve been through, at least the last part of it, and that as a result you are super smart, you question everything, and you can argue both sides of any issue, including your own self worth. Quote of the Day

"I hate that my family genes are plus size." ~ Leigh Boyko

My best friend said this to me the other day, and I died laughing. Then yesterday, one of my local best friends celebrated losing all of her baby weight just in time for her son's first birthday. Lorelai is three and a half now, and on a rare good day I am at my pre-pregnancy weight... but the average day I hover around five pounds over where I started. Really, it wouldn't be the end of the world, but my due to breast feeding I am an entire cup size smaller than pre-pregnancy. Weird, I know. So, it doesn't sit well with me to still be carrying around an extra FIVE pounds. It is really easy to get discouraged at the gym where everyone seems to be methodically pounding out miles on the track, and pumping weights without breaking a sweat. But, I'm like the little engine that could these days. Sweaty, gasping for breath, and exhausted... I want to succeed at my yoga class teaching so I am trying to up my physical endurance. I even went to the gym this morning before work, go me!

Yoga

I fell off the fitness wagon when I got pregnant with L, but I'm back now, even though being at the gym after such a long hiatus has been difficult and embarrassing. Maybe thirty really is bringing zen though, because I was asked to TEACH yoga at my gym! Go me! I'm very nervous that I won't be able to engage the minds, bodies, and spirits of an entire class... but I spent my lunch at the book store picking up new yoga books, and am soliciting any feed back y'all have about what you like in a fitness class, etc. This really couldn't come at a better time for me... this is a golden opportunity to find balance and stability!

A Mother's Prayer for her Daughter

Well said, Tina Fey. Well said.

http://www.parents.com/blogs/goodyblog/2011/05/tina-feys-a-mothers-prayer-for-her-daughter/

First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.

May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the the Beauty.

When the Crystal Meth is offered,

May she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half

And stick with Beer.

Guide her, protect her

When crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the nearby subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock N’ Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.

Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance.

Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes

And not have to wear high heels.

What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You because if I knew, I’d be doing it, dammit.

May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.

Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen.
Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long,

For Childhood is short — a Tiger Flower blooming

Magenta for one day –

And Adulthood is long and Dry-Humping in Cars will wait.

O Lord, break the Internet forever,

That she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers

And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.

And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister,

Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends,

For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.

And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord,

That I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 a.m., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back.

“My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck.

“My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental note to call me. And she will forget.

But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.

Amen.

3 years

So much can change in that time. Then again, our whole lives can be altered at any given second so maybe the time isn't the shocking part. This was Lorelai on Mother's Day 2008!! My mom has the pictures from this year, and Lorelai was as cute as ever. We had a great time with cake, presents and brunch at Coyote Blues, a Mexican Cajun restaurant... then Lorelai and I spent the afternoon building our present to each other, a bird house we painted pink and bedazzled.

Happy Mother's Day Weekend

The one and only thing I asked for from my parents for my 30th birthday was a Hill portrait of my and my sweet Lorelai. When I was a little girl I had a picture in my mind's eye of how glamorous being a mother would be, and this picture is exactly as I envisioned this chapter in my life (granted we're never as glamorous and put together as we are here but whateves). I love being her mother. It is unimaginably nice to have the most beautiful girl in the world think that I hung the moon, Happy Mother's Day everyone!!
